![]() ![]() Is your sword ready for the fellowship that awaits? If so, what cards did I leave off that you are salivating to sleeve up? Let me know in the comments below, or over in the official Draftsim Discord. ![]() Tolkien is where this genre started, and I’m hopeful that seeing Gandalf or Galadriel hitting the battlefield years from now will still feel as special as I hope it will be. Anytime an opponent casts any spell, you amass Orcs for 1, constantly giving you a creature to sacrifice or a massive one to attack with. This card is a value machine, giving you some sort of advantage time and time again. The most powerful of them were Ancalagon the Black and Glaurung. The sheer power behind Sauron, the Dark Lord, can be staggering to face in a game. As far as dragons go, it’s safe to say they’re one of the most powerful creatures in Arda, the world consisting of Middle-Earth and other continents. These cards are legends amongst legends for fans. Ancalagon the Black, Glaurung and Smaug in Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies. In The Lord of the Rings series, and the other adjacent series such as The Hobbit, there are many fascinating magical creatures. Many of these creatures are rather dangerous such as orcs and dragons while others are much more benevolent. But I think LotR fans who are new to Magic will like this set more than D&D fans who did the same for Adventures in the Forgotten Realms.Īnd the fact that there are a lot of powerful cards here but that they’re almost all build-arounds in some fashion really works for me. Perhaps that’s not a fair comparison, as D&D is so huge and personalized. Compared to the Dungeons and Dragons sets, this feels truer to the experience of the Lord of the Rings than those were for D&D. What I like about this set is that it feels like those games. Heck, I even love Lord of the Rings Risk! (I am, btw, going to take the physical ring from that game to use as my tempted by the Ring marker). As a Lord of the Rings fan and player of every LotR deckbuilding game they’ve published, there’s just a great feeling entering the world. The last deck, The Hosts of Mordor, trucks in the big, bad Sauron, The Lord of the Rings. The Lord of the Rings The Hobbit The Fellowship of the Ring The Two Towers The Return of the King The Silmarillion The Children of Húrin The History of Middle-earth The Lost Road and Other Writings The Book of Lost Tales I The Book of Lost Tales II The Lays of Beleriand The War of the Jewels Secondary lit. I really like the flavor and feel of this set. Wheels makes an impassioned argument that Commander is the best way to play Magic: The Gathering.Watch on YouTube.
